A walk through Guadalajara will allow you to admire the green areas and public art in many of the parks and squares of the city. The Cathedral is located in the heart of the city, with its twin towers and its central dome, it is the most recognized historical site on the Guadalajara skyline. In the heart of the city you can find buildings of neoclassical architecture in the beautiful mansions of avenues such as La Paz and Vallarta. Chapultepec Avenue offers visitors a walk between the beauty of the city and its urban culture gathered in an area where you can see photographic exhibitions among fountains, bars, restaurants, coffee shops and bookstores.
Unlike many colonial cities that maintain their original urban plan, in the 1950s, Guadalajara underwent an important project that changed the face of the city. Old buildings were demolished to expand avenues with new buildings, build underground parking lots and shopping centers. Fortunately, the most beautiful ancient buildings were left intact.
Guadalajara offers a wide range of cultural and entertainment activities; It has large parks, shopping centers, first-class cinemas and nightclubs, and is the venue for national and international events such as the International Book Fair, the International Film Festival, the October Festivals and the May Cultural Festival, among many others. Because of its proximity to the town of Tequila, Jalisco, it is possible to make a round trip on the same day on board the “Tequila Express” train.
As for the gastronomy of Guadalajara, one of the most typical dishes from Jalisco is the birria, traditional from Tlaquepaque and so popular that throughout the national territory it can be tasted, in addition to the popular tamale in its different flavors; corn, pineapple, meat and finally the famous “torta ahogada”: a birote that is stuffed with pork meat and covered with a sauce of chili with onion.
